In the early hours of Tuesday, Ukraine reportedly carried out a brutal assassination of a top Russian general using a bomb disguised within a scooter.

The commander of the unit responsible for safeguarding Russia’s troops from chemical, radiological, and biological attacks was killed by the explosion of a scooter on the snow-covered streets of Moscow.

The most senior commander to be killed in the heart of the Russian capital since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine is Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov.

Russian law enforcement authorities reported that Kirillov, the commander of the Russian Armed Forces’ Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense Troops, was slain outside a residential building, along with his assistant.

Ukrainian officials claimed that the assassination was a special operation conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the nation’s primary domestic intelligence agency.

In order to gain an advantage in the nearly three-year-old war with its behemoth neighbor, which has resulted in the destruction of several Ukrainian cities and the deaths of tens of thousands, Kyiv has attempted to employ targeted assassinations against Russian military commanders, prominent pro-war figures, and military installations located far from the front-line.

Ukrainian forces have been accused of employing drones to attack the Kremlin, as well as planting explosive devices and employing close-range firearms to target high-profile figures in Russia.

Kirillov’s murder was classified as an act of terror by Russian authorities.

On Monday, the SBU identified Kirillov as a suspect in an investigation of war crimes, alleging that he had authorized the use of prohibited chemical weapons in Ukraine, one day prior to his death.

The United States has accused Russia of violating a chemical-weapons prohibition in Ukraine, which Russia has denied.

Apparently, a vehicle located in the vicinity was the source of the video depicting the early morning attack on Tuesday.

Ukraine is suspected of being responsible for the assassinations of a prominent nationalist war blogger, a former Ukrainian legislator who was pro-Moscow, and a top Russian missile scientist.

In 2022, U.S. intelligence agencies determined that Kyiv was accountable for the murder of Daria Dugina, the young daughter of a prominent far-right Russian intellectual.
