In a surprising turn of events, President Donald Trump’s approval ratings have now reportedly rebounded significantly, according to Harry Enten, a senior data reporter for CNN.

After experiencing a decline in April, recent polling indicates a notable resurgence as public sentiment shifts regarding the economy.

Enten highlighted that Trump’s approval rating has improved from a net disapproval of -8 points on April 21 to just -1 point as of this week, based on data from a Reuters/Ipsos poll. This change reflects a broader trend, with Trump’s net approval rising from -9 points in late April to -6 points currently.

“It’s time for a bit of a reality check,” Enten remarked, noting that many observers had prematurely declared Trump politically finished. “He is rising from the dead like Lazarus,” he added, emphasizing the unexpected nature of this recovery.

The recent increase in Trump’s approval ratings correlates with an easing of recession fears among the public.

According to the same Reuters/Ipsos poll, concerns regarding the stock market have decreased from 67% in April to 60% in May, while those worried about a recession have dropped from 76% to 69%.

Financial assessments from J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs also reflect this optimism, with predicted recession probabilities falling below 50% for J.P. Morgan and from 45% to 35% for Goldman Sachs.

Enten pointed out that Trump’s current -6 net approval rating is significantly better than the -15 rating he held at the same point during his first term in May 2017.

This suggests that, despite ongoing challenges, Trump is faring better now than he did four years ago.

The president’s recent approval decline had been attributed to his economic policies, particularly reciprocal tariffs aimed at encouraging domestic manufacturing and negotiating fairer trade deals.

However, a recent agreement to lower tariffs in collaboration with China may be contributing to the renewed optimism among voters.

As public perceptions of the economy improve, Trump’s approval ratings appear poised for further growth. Enten concluded that, contrary to what many anticipated, Trump’s approval has not only stabilized but is showing signs of recovery.

The next few months will be crucial as the political landscape evolves and both parties prepare for the upcoming elections.

This unexpected upswing in Trump’s approval ratings underscores the volatile nature of public opinion and the significant impact that economic conditions can have on political fortunes.

As the political narrative shifts, it remains to be seen how this will influence Trump’s continued pursuit of the presidency.
