According to newly collected data that was examined by the New York Post, the number of police officers in New York City who have resigned from their positions this year has broken all previous records.

The New York City Police Department saw the departure of 239 officers in the first two months of 2023, which is a significant increase compared to the 176 officers who departed in 2022 and the 110 officers who left in 2021 during the same time period.

According to statements made by officers, the significant number of officers who have left the force is the result of several factors, including bad working conditions, compensation, and far-left ant-cop politics.

If the rate of resignations remains the same as it is now, the number of officers who have left the department will reach around 1,400 by the end of the year.

Some of the cops have chosen to relocate to different, less-liberal parts of the country, such as Florida, while others are going to work for the subway system in New York City.

A representative for City Hall stated that public safety remained the city’s top concern and that the city had witnessed a drop in some violent crimes despite a countrywide labor shortage.

As a result of the violent demonstrations that shook the nation in 2020 in Minneapolis in response to the killing of George Floyd, many officers began to leave their positions en masse to policies and political climates which were perceived as being anti-cop.

As the number of crimes committed in the New York rises and the department tries to make efficient use of its limited resources, the number of people leaving to pursue retirement has also increased.

The New York City Police Department recently reduced its fitness criteria to become an officer, including the elimination of a timed 1.5-mile run.

This change was made in part to make it possible for more women to join the force, which has led to an increase in the number of resignations.

In recent years, police agencies all around the United States have had difficulty recruiting new officers.

This trend has occurred concurrently with an upsurge in anti-police sentiment in large cities and the “defund the police” campaign supported by a significant number of Democratic lawmakers.
