Former President Trump criticized Utah Sen. Mitt Romney (R) and expressed support for a potential candidate to replace him in a post on Truth Social on Saturday.

“A Highly Successful Entrepreneur, who has served brilliantly as Mayor of Riverton for the past six years, Trent knows how to Create Jobs, Stop Inflation, Grow the Economy, and Secure the Border. As your next Senator, Trent will help us Unleash American Energy, Support our Military/Vets, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. Trent Staggs has my Complete and Total Endorsement – He will be a GREAT Senator, and never let you down!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Romney, a regular detractor of Trump, declared his intention to retire from the Senate upon the completion of his term in September.

In his statement, he expressed the need for emerging leaders to assume control.

In May, Staggs, the mayor of Riverton, Utah, became the first of several Republicans to declare his candidacy for Romney’s senate seat.

Staggs expressed appreciation for Trump’s backing in a post on the social network X on Saturday.
