President Donald Trump reportedly launched a scathing attack on “fake news” pollsters, including Fox News, as his approval ratings hit historic lows nearing the 100-day mark of his second term.
Following a series of unflattering polls, Trump took to Truth Social to express his outrage, labeling the results as “FAKE” and calling for investigations into media outlets he accused of promoting election fraud.
Trump pointed to pollster John McLaughlin’s comments about the validity of results from sources like The New York Times and the ABC/Washington Post, which reported only 34% to 37% support for him among 2024 voters.
He claimed these figures were intentionally skewed to produce negative outcomes.
In his posts, he wrote, “These people should be investigated for ELECTION FRAUD” and included Fox News in his criticisms, despite the network’s long-standing support for him.
The tirade came as multiple surveys indicated widespread disapproval of Trump’s policies, particularly regarding the economy and immigration.
A New York Times/Siena College poll showed Trump’s approval rating at 42%, with a disapproval rating of 54%.
Additionally, 72% of respondents believed his economic policies could lead to a recession, while many described his presidency as “scary” and “chaotic.”
Trump’s call for fraud investigations into Fox News was surprising, given the network’s history of backing him.
However, his frustration reflects a growing dissatisfaction with media coverage that he perceives as biased.
As Trump continues to assert his dominance in Republican politics, his criticisms of polling and media narratives indicate a strategy to rally his base against perceived injustices.
