Elon Musk, the CEO of the electric carmaker Tesla, mentioned during a Q&A session for the company’s annual shareholder meeting that he has had three attempts on his life in the last seven months, with no obvious motive other than his notoriety in the business and social media worlds.

The remark was prompted by an investor who wanted to know how the millionaire managed to maintain his high profile while still taking care of himself.

“It is getting a little crazy these days. You know, like, to first approximation, the probability that a homicidal maniac will try to kill you is proportional to how many homicidal maniacs hear your name.” Musk said in response.

“They hear my name a lot, and I’m like, ok, I’m on the list.” he continued.

“We [Tesla] actually did have two homicidal maniacs in the last roughly seven months, come to aspirationally try to kill me and a bunch of other people, so it’s not just me, and there wasn’t an actual issue that they articulated — they were just, you know, in the homicidal maniac career.” he concluded.

The billionaire noted that he has stopped signing things in public and that one of the main drawbacks of putting his safety first is that he comes out as more distant from other people.
