A prominent BBC broadcaster has reportedly been placed on leave following claims that he paid a child tens of thousands of pounds for pornographic photos.

In a statement released on Sunday afternoon, UK time, the company confirmed the suspension but made no mention of the subject of the accusations.

The BBC and the Metropolitan Police are in discussion over the matter as well.

The well-known broadcaster reportedly paid the minor more than £35,000 ($45,000) in exchange for pornographic images.

The purported communications began in 2020, when the youngster was 17.

According to reports, the child then used the money to support a crack cocaine habit.

In recent hours, the BBC has been under intense scrutiny over why it did not take action against the mystery broadcaster sooner.

The mother of the adolescent accused the host of “destroying my child’s life.”

She also said that the presenter made few attempts to hide his identity and asked for “performances.”

The identity of the BBC host in question has so far not yet been revealed.
