The Biden Administration has now issued an unprecedented executive order calling for a new age of biotechnology and transhumanism that may push the bounds of traditional ethics and morality.
Executive Order 14081 calls for a ‘whole-of-government approach’ to advance biotechnology as well as for the begining of an entirely new ‘bioeconomy’ within the United States. It calls for ‘genetic engineering technologies and techniques’ to allow scientists to rewrite the genetic code of cells and ‘predictably program’ them in the same way engineerings ‘program’ computers.
If applied to people, Biden’s demand for “programming” biology in the same way we program software would advance the radical transhumanist goal of creating “superhumans” by using many types of technology, especially biotechnology, to manipulate homo sapiens at the biological level.
Biden’s directive also requested that the Secretary of Health and Human Services “submit a report assessing how to use biotechnology … to… reduce the overall burden of disease, and improve health outcomes.”
Attempts to “program biology” in humans might not only pose additional potential health risks to otherwise healthy humans, such as those demonstrated to be the side effects of certain popular injections, but they would also increasingly open up the possibility of the start of a new wave of eugenic “enhancement.” The fear of which is why gene editing has long been described as a incredibly dangerous technology, which could potentially lead to a dystopian future of massive genetic inequality.
In reality, such technology has already been in use for many years. In certain totalitarian societies, such as Communist China, the gene editing technique CRISPR has already been used to modify the DNA of human infants. The real question is whether the U.S. under Joe Biden is now preparing to go down a similar road.
Optimism over transhumanist genetic engineering has led some individuals involved with radical International organizations like the World Economic Forum, such as Yuval Noah Harari to declare that due to the recent scientific advances “We are probably one of the last generations of Homo sapiens.” Harari’s insinuation being that genetic engineering will soon allow those in power to recreate human beings on the level of their very DNA, in effect abolishing the species as we know it.
