According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, former Republican gubernatorial candidate and journalist Kari Lake will declare her candidacy for Arizona’s Senate seat on October 10.
Katie Hobbs defeated Lake in the 2022 gubernatorial election in the state by 0.6% of the vote, but Lake refused to concede defeat, alleging that the election was stolen from her.
At a rally on October 10, Lake, a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, will declare her candidacy for the Arizona Senate seat held by independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema.
In legal challenges she filed regarding the election, Lake’s claim that the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election was “stolen” was dismissed.
Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego of Arizona’s 3rd congressional district is vying for the Democratic nomination for the seat and leads primary polls by a margin of over 30 percentage points.
Sinema, who was elected in 2018 as a Democrat but quit the party in 2022, has not indicated whether she will run again or not.
