The Democrat mayor of Eagle Pass, Texas, has now reportedly stated that his constituents have experienced assaults and home invasions due to the continued influx of illegal immigrants across the southern border.
Mayor Rolando Salinas reportedly told the New York Post on Thursday that he expects his city of 28,500 residents to accommodate between 4,000 and 9,000 illegal immigrants in the coming days, in addition to the thousands who have already entered or passed through the city.
In the past 10 days, approximately 11,500 unlawful immigrants have already crossed Eagle Pass, according to the Post.
In recent days, videos from the border show streams of foreign nationals entering the United States, with many entering through Eagle Pass, where the Biden administration has been accused of removing razor wire installed by Texas to discourage incursions.
Valeria Wheeler, the executive director of the Mission Border Hope Center in Eagle Pass, stated that the influx of illegal immigrants had resulted in an increase in the number of single males and the rate of crime.
“Mostly, we are seeing single men. From Sunday to Wednesday, we had six incidents of violence in the shelter – shoving, shouting, hitting our staff. These people rode a train to get here. They are deeply in survival mode. They’re here now, and they still haven’t come off of that. They’re very defensive. We’ve never had violence before.” Wheeler said.
Throughout the Biden administration, illegal crossings at the southern frontier have remained high and have approached record levels.
A significant portion of the Biden administration’s strategy has involved the processing and release of large numbers of illegal immigrants with distant court appointments.
