Early on Sunday, Elon Musk declared that he was restoring far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’s X, formerly known as Twitter, account.
In 2018, Jones—who gained notoriety for advocating the theory that the Sandy Hook school tragedy in 2012 was a hoax—was barred from the platform indefinitely.
In 2018, Jones’ program Infowars was also blocked from Twitter indefinitely.
Musk violated his vow from the previous year that he would not permit Jones to return to the platform by allowing Jones to be reinstated.
Users are asked to vote in a poll that Musk uploaded to his account on Saturday on Jones’s reinstatement on the site.
Jones was forced to pay over $1.5 billion in damages for his bogus claims that the Sandy Hook mass shooting was a fabrication, and he filed for bankruptcy last year.
