Residents of New Jersey are now reportedly expressing their dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to provide answers regarding the dozens of potential drone sightings in the skies above their residences.
They are threatening to take action independently if the government fails to do so.
James Ward, a Jersey Shore realtor, posted a video on Facebook on Sunday that he claimed depicted “SUV-size drones” flying above Island Beach State Park.
The footage depicts a number of lights hovering in the sky, making it challenging to determine their size.
It is generally illegal to shoot down a drone that is flying over a property.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced that the act of shooting down a drone is unlawful under the same federal law that prohibits the sabotage of any other aircraft.
The hazardous or unauthorized operation of an aircraft, whether or not it is manned, is also prohibited by FAA regulations.
After Governor Phil Murphy, a Democrat, and two Republican congressmen urged the federal government to shoot down any unidentified drones in the vicinity, as there was discussion among frustrated citizens of taking matters into their own hands.
For weeks, lawmakers from both political parties have been exerting pressure on investigators and regulators to provide a response in the wake of dozens of sightings of a number of mysterious drone swarms in the area.
It is unclear whether all of the flying objects are drones or manned aircraft, and the origin of the drones remains an enigma.
The navigation signals are a significant indication that the individual piloting them is not attempting to conceal them, according to experts.
However, numerous sightings have been reported, including objects that witnesses say appear to be larger than typical retail drones, such as those observed above Island Beach State Park..
An Army spokesperson informed Fox News Digital that Picatinny Arsenal had requested and received a provisional flight restriction for its airspace until Dec. 26 due to the high volume of reported drone sightings in the area.
