With outrage in Beijing over Taiwan President Tsai Ing-meeting wen’s in California with the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy, China has now reportedly initiated three days of military drills near Taiwan. The exercises will take place around the island.
China, which claims Taiwan as its own and has not ruled out the use of force to achieve its goals, will hold “combat readiness patrols” until April 10, according to a brief statement released on Saturday by the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) Eastern Theatre Command. The exercises, which are being conducted under the codename United Sharp Sword, will take place in the Taiwan Strait to the north and south of the island as well as in the sea and airspace to the island’s east.
Tsai met McCarthy on the return leg of a trip of the self-ruled island’s two last formal friends in Central America. Tsai flew home on Friday after completing the journey and meeting McCarthy.
Even before the meeting took place, Beijing had already promised to take retaliatory action. Several hours before the conference was supposed to take place on Wednesday, the aircraft carrier named the Shandong was observed traveling through the waters to the southeast of Taiwan on its route to the western Pacific.
The Ministry of Defense of Taiwan stated that they were watching the situation and will respond accordingly in order to protect the security of the island.

Maybe our country should use one of the carriers, along with a few of the supporting ships, in the Pacific fleet to pay a visit to Taiwan. Would China be foolish enough to try and stop them from getting there? I doubt that they want to push things that far, at least not yet. They need to have Biden win a second term, then they can make their move.
