Rap singer Lizzo, 34, claimed to be the first person in living memory to play a 200-year-old crystal flute loaned to her by The Library of Congress. The instrument was originally owned by founding father and fourth president of the United States, James Madison.
The singer played the priceless crystal flute, twerked onstage, and then returned the item to the agent. It was then securely taken back to the library by Capitol police.
“B****, I just twerked and played James Madison’s flute from the 1800s!” the singer yelled out onstage after a brief performance.
Lizzo visited the Library of Congress before the event and played various flutes from their archive. Carla Hayden, the Librarian of Congress, tweeted with the pop diva before to her arrival to Washington, D.C.
Surprisingly, ‘Lizzo’ is a classically trained flutist and reportedly frequently plays the instrument during shows.
Still the incident raises serious questions about whether lending out one of America’s most sacred artifacts that was previously owned by one of the country’s most influential and revered founding fathers, to an overweight rapper is truly the proper way to honor Madison’s legacy.
