A “suspicious phone call” sent law enforcement scrambling at the President Donald J. Trump International Airport in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, just hours before the president was scheduled to fly out.

A heavy police presence was reported at the terminal, and roads leading to the facility were closed as authorities investigated the call.

“As a precaution, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has slowed traffic entering the terminal and is redirecting vehicles in the area,” WPBF-TV reported.

The airport issued an alert on its X account at 1:23 p.m. warning travelers about the situation.

“Law enforcement is investigating a suspicious phone call. As a precaution, PBSO has slowed traffic entering the terminal. Travelers may experience delays,” the airport wrote. “If you see something, say something. Report suspicious activity to law enforcement. Thanks for your patience & cooperation.”

Officials did not disclose the nature of the call or whether the president himself was threatened.

Trump, who spent the weekend in Florida, was set to depart several hours after the call came in, according to reports.

“Airport law enforcement told the Daily Mail they had no further details on the incident but said officials were investigating an incident around the airport,” the outlet reported.

About an hour later, the airport announced that roadways to the terminal had reopened and that airport operations had returned to normal.

The incident unfolded at an airport that now bears the president’s name. Palm Beach International Airport officially took Trump’s name in July after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, signed legislation making the change.

Trump celebrated the renaming at the time in a post on Truth Social.

“A very big day in Palm Beach, Florida, where it was my Great Honor to have the Palm Beach International Airport be renamed, by a spectacular vote, The President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” Trump wrote.

“The Area is HOT, the Location is GREAT, and the Renovation will be SPECTACULAR,” he continued. “Thank you to all in Palm Beach for your Vote and your Confidence. This will soon be one of the Greatest and Most Spectacular Airports anywhere in the World!”

Sunday’s scare brought a swift response from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, which slowed traffic heading into the terminal and redirected vehicles in the surrounding area while investigators looked into the call.

Travelers were warned to expect delays as law enforcement worked the scene, and the airport urged the public to report any suspicious activity to authorities.

While the situation was resolved within roughly an hour, with roads reopened and normal operations restored, key questions remain unanswered. Officials have not said what was said during the call, who made it or whether it was directed at the president.

Airport law enforcement told the Daily Mail it had no additional details beyond confirming that officials were investigating an incident around the airport.

The timing of the call drew attention, coming just hours before Trump was due to leave the Florida airport that bears his name following a weekend in the state.

The investigation into the suspicious call remains ongoing, and authorities have not released any further information about what prompted the heightened police response.
