Republican Texas Sen. Bob Hall reportedly filed legislation Thursday that would prohibit sexual orientation and gender identity education in public schools.

The measure also compels schools to tell parents when a kid receives in-school treatment for physical, emotional, or mental health difficulties, and it prohibits school officials from hiding information about a transgender child from parents.

It comes amid increased worries over the inclusion of sensitive gender and sexuality-related classroom lectures and school activities, which has prompted other jurisdictions to prohibit similar activities.

“This session in Texas we have to stop the sexualization of children. There is a reason this is the @TexasGOP priority, and I’m 100% behind it,” Texas Rep. Bryan Slaton stated Friday regarding the legislation.

Parents might file civil suits under the Act if they have unresolved complaints about lesson plans that breach these guidelines or if school staff fail to tell them about concerns affecting their children’s health and well-being.

In 2021, Florida enacted legislation prohibiting classroom education on gender identity and sexual orientation in kindergarten through third grade.
