House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and senior GOP leaders are now reportedly demanding testimony from members of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s Office amid reports of an imminent indictment of former President Donald Trump.

The House GOP reportedly sent a letter to Bragg’s office after former President Trump claimed over the weekend that he would be jailed as soon as Tuesday and asking his fans to be ready to protest on his behalf.

“You are reportedly about to engage in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority: the indictment of a former president of the United States and current declared candidate for that office,” the letter read.

“This indictment comes after years of your office searching for a basis — any basis — on which to bring charges, ultimately settling on a novel legal theory untested anywhere in the country and one that federal authorities declined to pursue. If these reports are accurate, your actions will erode confidence in the evenhanded application of justice and unalterably interfere in the course of the 2024 presidential election.” it continued.

However the aggressive move from the Congressional GOP also comes before Bragg has made a final decision on whether or not to charge Trump with a crime.

The primary emphasis of the inquiry being conducted by Bragg is on the part that Trump had in orchestrating a payment of $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Daniels was getting ready to go public with a tale that she had a sexual encounter with Trump, which he categorically denies.

Michael Cohen, a former Trump fixer, was the one who organized the payment. Trump later compensated Cohen for the job as legal expenses, but Cohen failed to report the transaction in campaign finance filings. In the end, he entered a guilty plea and served time in prison for his role in organizing the payments, which he said he did at the order of Trump. He also claimed that Trump directed him to do so.

It still remains unclear when or if Bragg will choose to charge Trump with a crime in connection to the case.
